B3 Swatches Article

Troubleshooting

Diagnose missing swatches, wrong output, shop-loop surprises, and share-button issues with simple symptom-to-check guidance.

Start with the symptom you can see on the page. Most issues come down to one of four causes: dropdown conversion is off, the option has no swatch data, a product override is winning, or a feature such as shop output or sharing has not been fully enabled.

Conversion issues

Check conversion and product setup first when swatches do not appear at all.

If a product still shows plain dropdowns, start with the basics. Confirm the product is variable, Auto Convert Dropdowns is enabled, and the attribute terms or product overrides actually contain swatch data.

Output issues

Check term data and product overrides when the swatch looks wrong or loses text or media.

When the swatch renders, but the wrong type or text is showing, check where the data is coming from. Global attribute-term data is the default, but a product override can replace type, label, color, image, number, and text visibility for one product.

Wrong type or missing asset
Recheck the attribute term or product override. A color swatch with no valid color, or an image swatch with no image, can fall back to a different output.
Text showing or missing unexpectedly
Check the global label toggles and any `Hide Text` override on that product option.
Tooltip behavior
If tooltips do not show, verify they are enabled. If they feel awkward on phones, disable tooltips on mobile.

Shop and share issues

Shop-loop and share-button issues usually come from feature prerequisites, not styling.

The shop loop and share layer both have prerequisites. The loop only renders on variable products when Enable on Shop Page is on, and the share button only appears when variation URLs are enabled and the current selection maps to a valid variation URL.
